Magelang – Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto accompanied President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the main building of the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Monday (29/1).
Prabowo arrived at the location at 9:25 a.m. and was welcomed by the Governor of Akmil, Major General R. Sidharta Wisnu Graha, to review the preparations and provide directions before the main event.
Then, precisely at 11:00 a.m. Jokowi arrived at Akmil after previously visiting the Blabak Market, Magelang Regency, to monitor the prices of nine basic necessities (sembako). Jokowi, who appeared wearing black batik with gold patterns, was greeted by Prabowo who was wearing a long white shirt and a black peci.
Also seen were TNI Commander Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Ali, and Air Force Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo who welcomed Jokowi’s arrival at Akmil.
Then, Prabowo and Jokowi, along with the commander, chief of police, and the chiefs of staff of the armed forces, immediately entered the main building to take a tour before the inauguration began.
After finishing the building tour, Jokowi gave a speech in front of the Akmil cadets. He said, the construction of the main building would support better facilities for the cadets’ learning activities.
“The construction of this 8,068 square meter main building will encourage the cadets to learn even better, because the education facilities at Akmil will become more complete, sophisticated, and modern,” said Jokowi.
“The main building can be used as a center for academic activities and military events,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prabowo said the main building is part of efforts to realize the grand vision of development and improvement of educational facilities in military institutions.
“It is expected to have a central role in shaping the character, mentality, and intellectualism of the future leaders of the TNI and the nation,” said Prabowo.
He also hoped that the construction of this new facility could improve the quality and standards of the cadets’ education. “And can increase the competitiveness of young soldiers on the international stage,” Prabowo continued.
The main building of Akmil Magelang was built on an area of 8,306 square meters with details of the first floor covering an area of 3,328 square meters, the second floor covering 2,617 square meters, and the third floor covering 2,617 square meters.
