The Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, shared during a speech at the closing ceremony of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Congress in Solo, Central Java, that the government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has gained international recognition. This program, which aims to provide free nutritious meals to schoolchildren, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, has not only been successful but has also captured the attention of other countries. Prabowo mentioned that during his trips abroad, people have been inquiring about Indonesia’s initiatives, particularly the MBG program.
Since its inception, the MBG program has benefitted over six million people, mainly children and pregnant women. Prabowo is optimistic that the number of beneficiaries will continue to increase rapidly. The government’s target is to reach 20 million beneficiaries by the end of August 2025, and potentially exceed that number. This program plays a vital role in addressing malnutrition, promoting a healthy future generation, stimulating the local economy through support for food producers and vendors, and advancing social equality and early human development for long-term nation-building.
