President Prabowo Subianto has disclosed that he engaged in direct discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding trade tariffs, characterizing the negotiations as challenging yet ultimately fruitful. The Indonesian president expressed gratitude for reaching an agreement after tough talks at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta. Prabowo highlighted the mutual understanding of both countries’ national interests during the negotiations. As a result, the United States agreed to decrease import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. Emphasizing the careful consideration by the Indonesian government in safeguarding public and domestic worker interests, Prabowo acknowledged the meticulous negotiation process. Asserting the priority of protecting Indonesian workers, Prabowo expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic strength amidst global uncertainties. He also shared plans for a forthcoming visit to the United States, hinting at a potential meeting with President Trump in September or October. In a light-hearted moment, Prabowo jokingly mentioned his nerves if invited to play golf by Trump.
